Ditch fishing

Today I went to a canal which in theory has very big catfish but caught nothing lol .Only saw large Peacockbass but wanted to catch a catfish .

On the way home I stopped by a common road side ditch fed by canal and caught several jags, Miyans,Sunfish ,gars and what I think is perch (fish pic 2).
Hook was way to big but caught over 30 diff fish in 2 hours in that ditch go figure
. Took 1 pic of each specimen.

I had no idea the 2 natives were even same type of fish but now I see the black dot in both.

The red fish is an adult Miyan cichlid its the most common fish in canals every canal has them and though I like to catch them most here who fish are sick of them.

I really want to catch red devils as some of the brightest yellow/red fish I have ever seen but I can't get them to hit the hook.

They are all over here in area canal but never bite.
