Great thread....im gonna head out that way this spring to fish for exotics.....hopefully the population isnt hurt to much by this weather.

Louie, when you go to Broward to fish, would it be okay if you hit me up and we can fish together? I'd love to bring a pole out and catch some cichlids.

I knew talipia were going to die off but didnt think Mayans . Sorry to hear that

I have not seen anything other than native in last week in ditches and area canal the fish have gone to deep end. I havent seen anything dead yet other than BIG peacock bass in area golf course.
Its just to much for PB.

Did you do much fishing over the summer?

I am still trying to catch a walking catfish like yours. I sent that link to my friends in NY they loved it.

Yup big old mayans and the water hasnt warmed up to bring the ones on the bottom up. That or the catfish and such are scavenging them. Im hoping we didnt loose ALOT of PBass. That would be sad for fishing..

I didnt do much fishing at all over the summer. Once the weather starts to warm up im going to start going on my lunch hour...

Yeah that walking Cat was a trip. I see either them or the Plecos hitting the top before the cold spell alot around in the canals..

lol walking out was a big hit in NY .

I added one to my fish list but never saw one other than yours .

I recall you saying you were taking a break from fishing due to constant 100 to 110 degree summer temps and now we just had 30s :(.

The cold wave is over hope most fish made it but it does seem many are dead.

Salvini is a cichlid you guys have but we do not . I have seen lots exotics many I never mention in my out of way canals but not a single salvini here ever.

Unique only to Broward.

Some canals took a massive toll . fhawk362 has seen massive deaths Surprised isnt in more canals but you will still have plenty of cichlids .

I work by Tamiami trail which is a deep canal and so far so good but lots rocky, shallow cichlid friendly canals must be wiped out
