Yes I guess your right. Next time I fish a 5 ft radius type hole will post whole pic of it as thats more like a ditch and those are all over but way to cold at night right now for fish to bite during day.

Even the long ponds which are no more than 2 feet deep yet connect to canals are barren of cichlids and only war mouths and other natives are biting but to cold now for me till March.

Hey. That's Tamiami, 2 miles west of Krome, right?

Spotted Sunfish eh? Very cool looking fish.

Ive never seen a warmouth that color before. It doesnt have the markings of a warmouth. I think it is a spotted sunfish(Lepomis punctatus)

Your right I just looked it up . I never heard of spotteds. I couldnt recognize the pics in the sunfish list by the large fish I caught but the smaller version is exactly that.

I guess those 2 larger one's just had "off" color since it seems they can change their color a bit.

This small one is truly spotted the large adults threw me off as couldnt ID them..

Thanks

Yes thats it . I was fishing the ditches for awhile because the PB are gone now till spring and fun to catch jags, oscars and the usual cichlids .

I actually prefer horse country canals as fish for Red Devils and big plecos but they never bite and felt like breaking my rod over my leg :nilly:.

2 yrs and only see them never got one to bite . Well plecos nibble but can't hook them.

wow!! i bet you had a blast, fishing there instead of fishing where you thought fish were gonna be.ha:headbang2

The ditches during warm weather are fun for cichlids and in cooler temps native fish . Each ditch area has diff cichlids which is unusual .

I like bopper and earthworm fishing so ditches, ponds are great for me but local "real" fisherman LMB and PB wont be caught dead fishing there lol

Now its just freezing 40 degrees and they are all gone for few weeks :(.

Go check your ditches Louie, at the lake near my work that cold spell has gotten tot he Mayans also .. not just the tilapia. This is also as cold that Pbass can be affected also. Im going to go to a fw of my ditches later or tomorrow and take a look..

I knew talipia were going to die off but didnt think Mayans . Sorry to hear that

I have not seen anything other than native in last week in ditches and area canal the fish have gone to deep end. I havent seen anything dead yet other than BIG peacock bass in area golf course.
Its just to much for PB.

Did you do much fishing over the summer?

I am still trying to catch a walking catfish like yours. I sent that link to my friends in NY they loved it.
