man... i bet there are some big cats on that canal. fish at dusk and use live fish. anything around 4" that you catch in the ditch will do.

lol I wont fish at dusk anymore in areas like that due to fear as I need to see around me but your correct that seems to be when the big one's are caught.

Hey Louie

Where in Miami are you seeing these jags and red devils? Like what canal system or street? I have been down there several times to fish for exotics and have only caught one jag so far and have yet to see a red devil/midas.

Thank you

I sent you a PM .

Man south florida is cichlid heaven did you catch any oscars?

I have caught countless Oscars but nothing over 12 inches and fairly drab close to no red but some here have caught over 12 and nice red..

For certain serious admirers of Oscars, red is a defect. The totally olive and grey ones with lots of eyespots are the gems. But everyone has their own taste.

I love the red one's lol but whether tiny ones I have caught in actual crayfish trap or fishing all are drab mud brown with the oscar red dot and thats it (All catch and release)
They are the only cichlid which generations removed from pet store look very diff color wise. The other cichlids look as bright or brighter but never Oscars.

BTW Nice oscar . When you fish here and see so many catch/keep oscars it sucks. I know they are non native but they are harmless and found in stagnant warm waters

To me those look more like ponds than ditches

Yes I guess your right. Next time I fish a 5 ft radius type hole will post whole pic of it as thats more like a ditch and those are all over but way to cold at night right now for fish to bite during day.

Even the long ponds which are no more than 2 feet deep yet connect to canals are barren of cichlids and only war mouths and other natives are biting but to cold now for me till March.

Ive never seen a warmouth that color before. It doesnt have the markings of a warmouth. I think it is a spotted sunfish(Lepomis punctatus)
