Dither Fish W/ Flowerhorn?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it all comes down to the temperment of your flower horn, eg: when mine was around 3-3.5inch he was in a 180gallon tank attacking my aro which is hitting 21inch. they were fighting so bad i moved him into his own 100 gallon with 3 other flowerhorns, 2 severums, 3 synspilums all ranging from 2-5inch and he has systematically killed every single fish and now his on his lonesome and he seems much happier. now i just run a single internal pump and a wavemaker and he seems more then content riding the waves and eating as much as he possibly can.... all comes down to temperment and my dude doesnt share

Tiger barbs will get eaten up doing the night. The only dither I recommend is giant danios. They are also $1 at petsmart rightnow. I say this out of experience because I bought about 15 of them in my tank of red belly piranhas and they work great. No guarantee that they will all survive but the chances are better. I only have 9 remaining atm but this group is really slick. Trust me piranhas are way faster than big ol' flowerhorns.

they will be fine i have my tanks set at the same temps and i have had them in there at the longest 2weeks and everyone was fine

I would recommend silver dollars. They are hardy and fast enough to evade attacks. Plus they are greedy enough to compete and frustrate the FH possibly enough to deter him from continuing his attack on them. I would get a small shoal of about 4 or 5 to keep him occupied.

So far mine is a shy little dude, got lucky, although it may change as he matures. Depends on how aggressive yours is, unfortunately there is only one way to find out...maybe give some tinfoil barbs a try?

I used a few N. Venustus with my BP/ FH pair. He eventually got them all, but it took almost a year

I think I might go with a small group of silver dollars..
I'm pretty sure there might be aggression but I feed my flowerhorn sparingly about 4 times a day and he eats ANYTHING I put in his tank. So i'm hoping he wont mess with the silver dollars if I go forth with them.

- He did bite me the other day when I was doing a small water change, and I did feel it so if he wanted to strike hard enough, he would probably draw blood, and I am straight serious!
