Dither Fish W/ Flowerhorn?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I also might try giant danios... that seems like they would be a good schooling fish in my 90g tank.

I got 4 silver dollars for my FH tank almost three years back...... I still have 3 of them; 1 bailed the tank. My verdict: excellent dither fish!

thanks for the input, how big/aggressive is your flowerhorn?

The one on my avatar is 12".... not so aggressive, but I had a couple 11" ones who were real mean n burly!...... In a 6 feet tank the dollars were fast enough to cohabit.....

I didn't know silver dollars were good DITHERS. My piranhas catch a sd easily but have do much trouble catching a giant danio till the point where they just give up. Gl tho!

Sorry for late joining but maybe a few breeding cons as i think u don't want them to be eaten up and if ur fh is small u can try same sized or a bit bigger texas
cichlids

giant danios??? if and when your flowerhorn gets the chance it will swallow it whole in a second. The most successful dithers are tinfoils & balas, which are both schooling fish. Or an overstocked cichlid tank and addition of decorations that break line of sight. Seeing that my tinfoils and balas get tagged a lot, your danios won't have much success especially when they can be swallowed. Balas are slower, but they have pretty beefy scales like tinfoils. Tinfoils are fast and skiddish as **** when predators are around.

wow you had 3.5 inch fh with a 21inch aro thats insane
my aro is quite friendly to any fish that is small, anything larger then 6-7inch she will descale and rip apart... ie: thats just her personality... go figure??:nilly:

I've already tried a texas that was 2" bigger than him..., He OUT-grew him in months and killed him.
