Like that idea, thanks, and thanks for the nice comment re the Hybrid.
get some egg crates overlap them get some 25 mm square plastic conduit b&q if you put 2 egg crates together press the conduit on to them top and bottom and you can make any size you want hold them in place with alge and tank diver suction cups find them on ebay ps love the hybrid

Thanks Doyboy thats a good one, may try that.
Polycarb sheet from b@q jim, just drill loads of holes in it, same stuff they use on a conservatory roof

Like the idea of the pipe insulation to protect the tank. I assume you mean the grey colour pipe lagging? Is this okay to go in the water? This with some of the other ideas in this pos here, i think i can throw something together. Thanks all for your help and ideas. Cheers.
agreed with this. also if you have an acrylic tank I put pipe insulation wrap on the sides. this way you don't scratch the tank and it will fit tighter.

You can just use eheim 25-32mm pipe that works well

But the best method to insulate a ray I have found is to make a open need box out of egg crate put it over the ray then put rocks on top this allows other fish the full length of the tank as they can still swim over the top

safe for the water just have to watch and make sure no one Is chewing on it though.

I used the eggcrates before but find it too brittle to handle and some my fish smash through it. Suction caps also doesn't last long and gets off when the ray push against the screen.

I was on a local hardware over the weekend and found a plastic lattice type panel. It has bigger holes for the other fish to swim through and durable enough not to break easily. Have some spare algae magnet cleaner that ill be using to hold them together.

Truthfully it's best to make a box out of egg create with one open side
Make the box about 2ft wide 30" long and about 12" tall place the cage with the open side facing the substrate so the ray is still laying on the base place large rocks on top of the cage

It can't move it won't scratch the glass and other rays fish still get to swim on top of the cage and use the full length of the tank
