Diy background with caves

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have it installed in the aquarium now just waiting for it to cure. i used the latex drylock and i used quickcrete liquid concrete tint for color. first i mixed up a large amount of the base color i wanted for my rock and did several coats over entire background. it looked very unnatural, so i took 4 different containers which i mixed up different shades and started coating certain areas to give it highlights and shadows and then i took the lightest shade and just barley skimmed my brush over it. this way it would only cover the the ridges that stuck out, seemed to give it much more depth. then i moved the pieces into the aquarium and attached them with silicone i used about 5 clear and one black 10oz tubes of aquarium silicone to attach it, the black i used in the front where it can be seen. after it cured i took my drylok and covered the seams several coats till it all blended well i even covered the black silicone on the inside so it looks as if the rock and glass meet on the front pannel of glass, i am pretty stoked and cant wait to fill the aquarium. i dont know if the tint i use will be "fish safe" but i talked to a friend who tolk me he had used it with something he fabercated in his aquarium and had no problems. i plan to do a few water changes and let the tank cycle with some mosquito fish that i raise for feeders before i move my midas in the tank.

Nice Work!

I think it turned out well for my first one. i have already started another one for my bowfront. sorry the glass isnt very clean and my camera kinda sucks
