DIY Blue LED lighting?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Actually I just looked at the driver I have for my whites and I they are not labeled either. I really don't think it matters which wire you hook up to those AC ports. One of my live wires is connected to the side with the fuse and the other is on the side without it. I have all my white drivers wired to the same plug in so I could have them on a timer.

Only 2 of the 3 whites are working...One of the drivers was a dud. Will get another ordered.

Bit worried about the heat they are generating... Will look into putting a couple small fans in there.

I want this for my 40 gallon breeder, 36x18x16tall. I have moderate light plants and axolotls. I need it to be held up to 16 inches off the surface so that I can view them from above and have plants grow out of the tank. Will also have a plant holder 6 inches wider then the tank on the sides and back that will need lit as well (I figure with the fixture held off the surface this will be easy)

should I use 3 20watt cool whites and 2 10watt blues on dimmer? or should I just use 3 10 watt cools? Or maybe some other setup all together?

are there any other led colors that are good for plants?

I'd buy 3 20 watt cools and two 10 w blues on a dimmer. If three whites are too bright you can always just take one off and have it for a back up or another tank maybe. As far as having them raised 16" im sure there is a good mounting design somewhere out there. I have mine in a canopy but some people don't like them.

the plan is a canopy hanging by chains, will be strong. I was about to order just two, but Ill get three instead, just wasnt sure how much light I would lose with a fixture so high above the water, thanks, I have a new out thread started about this, with your permission I would like to quote you in that thread, and I will do the build there as well. thanks for your response.
