Diy canister filter help.

Although I'm a fan of DIY, a DIY canister is something I would be hesitant to do. Especially when there are very affordable manufactured options available.....such as the Sunsun and Odyssea brands
Gamma seal lid from home depot, 5g bucket, and heyco cord grip for the power cord, you will have to cut and rewire, you can wire quick disconnects that are wate tight as well. Good luck it's a fun project and mine worked well never leaked, I used a jebao DC 6000 for mine
I have a marine pure block. In order to get nitrate eating bacteria it needs low flow. I have a mag 9 but that is 600 gph after the head loss.
If you're looking for a nitrate filter simply adding pothos in a basket would work better. The maxi jet wouldn't give you much head room at all you'd likely have to run it right next to the tank even for just a few gph.
Ok everyone got the canister done and it ran great. No leaking or any other issues. The minute you turn the power off though pressure builds up in the bucket to the point it deform the bucket and leaks out of the gamma seal. Any ides on what to do?
Raise the canister filter higher or drill a syphon break hole (return side only) and raise your inlet higher in the tank.
Th only reason I can see for it doing that is because the material the pail and lid are made out of is not designed to be pressurized like that.
