DIY overflow is not working

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
allright guys i finally tested the DIY filter in my small tank.
:(
results are not good i mean i didnt glued the joints just tapped them
so some joints still leaks resulting in breakage of flow.also the pipe which goes to the filter is 1 inch in diameter.
and the one which returns water to tank is .75 inch in diameter the filter pump speed is 1100l/hr
the return speed is more than the water entering into the filter speed.
resulting in the no flow of water.

...and I was so excited to finally read that you got it working :(

Pipes leaking = air entering the pipes = siphon losing prime

You have to use PVC cement, it will create an air tight seal at the joints, even a small leak results in a failed siphon.

Now if your next post isn't "yay it works!" I am going to find where you live, sneak into your house chain you to your fish tank and give you a week straight PVC overflow boot camp and no there will be no bathroom breaks! :FIREdevil

man now that will hurt
next post will definetly be Eureka Eureka..

Also, you are going to need more than what you are using for that overflow. Your pump will pump much more than the oveflow. Use two or more.. You might want to read the sticky about flow in pipes.

allright guys finally i got it working.I glued all the ends. Seems like its the air which was giving the problem. Also i used a wider diameter pipe for return flow so as to minimize the flow and maintain the ratio.
Will post the pictures tomorrow.
:)
