I have a separate threat for this by the way.

The 4 circles will be bio-wheels from my Penguin 350. They will be the primary receivers for the water coming from the tank. Water will then travel through the first sponge, up to the drip late and on the the bio-balls. From there, water goes to the second sponge mixed with quilt batter for polishing and up it goes back to the tank. I will be using 2 x 1" DIY overflows for 1200 turnover.

Will this design work? I am planning to do this in my 30 gallon tall. It will be used for my 100 gallon tank. What do you guys think?

It will "work", but to get the maximum benefits and convenience move the sponge before everything then drip to the bio-balls and aerate from underneath, then run over the bio-wheels as they will give less benefit.

Because of the heighth of the divider between the bio-wheels and the bio-balls the three lower bio-wheels wil be under water :(.

As is, it will be very difficult to clean the sponges.

And I trust you meant 1200gph turnover and not a 1200x turnover (ie 120,000gph) :nilly: :D

It's called fluorescent light diffuser. I think that I picked that up at Lowe's near the exterior insulation section. It was a 2' x 4' piece for around $12.

$12??? i bought this for under $8 in Pa home depot... can't believe how 'crazy' prices are...

i understand that this is gravity fed(water gets pumped up to tank which inturn over flows back into sump,blah,blah,blah)... i've seen tanks with overflows... but how can i use this in my 220gal tank with no over flow??? just 4 glass walls...

i now use an undergravel filter (which takes up valuble real estate)
and a ehiem canister that filters 400gph
this was good for small fish as i would not have to do any maintanence to filters.
but now that the fish are getting big, the load is getting to much. the canister is nearly impossable to clean. and when i disturb the gravel when doing water changes using the python the water gets messed up for weeks.

search for HOB overflow and DIY overflow. Problem solved.

And get a gravel vac...pronto!

You should be able to move the gravel w/o garbage floating up.

i use the python. the water doesn't get dirty, that much, when doing the water change, it just gets out of wack after.
it gets cloudy-er day after day for a couple of weeks to where i can't even see the fish before it starts to clear.

i though this and justlookings sumps were stickied? not anymore?
