do guppies eat their fry?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes they are. The fry would swim to the top of the tank, then the angels would hunt them down with a loud pop when eating them.

im thinking about buyig guppies to breed to feed my atfs. i was thinking about buying fifty or a hunrded males and females and putting them in a 30 gal tank with marbles at the bottom for the fry to hide inbetween. how does this idea sound to those who know about breeding guppies? thanks. and which kind do you recomend. the guppies at the lfs that are labeled as "feeder guppies" are probably too small for the marble trick.

maybe rosy reds would be better to breed for the atfs? or danios? or goldfish? or mollys

Plants are better, 1/2 fill the tank with Java moss or similar, real or artifical.
You wont need 100 guppys, each female can drop 50-100 (or even more) - every month.
Get about 1 male for every 3 females.
The problem isn't getting enough fry, it's having the space to rear the fry you do get to a decent feeder size.

Ian

P.S. They really ARE easy to breed. ;)

I was given 12...

Wow Ian, how many guppies do you estimate you have in that tank? How big is the tank itself?

Haha.. no idea.

I've given away about 150.. still have at least that many left. They are in 2 tanks now, the original small 3ft in the picture and a tall 2ft tank.

If anyone wants guppys I just give them a handfull :D :screwy:
