ya all also have to remember that Southern California (the southern half of our state) is the same size as ALL of new england.. and people here are always on the move. no one stays anywhere for more than a few years. if someone lives in a house for 10 years it's very uncommon, and the folks that live in their home till it's paid off are almost unheard of.

it's also very common for folks here in socal to get rid of all of their animals every time they move and then adopt new ones when they get where they are going. this is why there are so many dogs in shelters and why there are so many aquariums for sale, or at least part of the reason.

being a native Californian this tendency to just throw away everything that you work for and care about when they become inconvenient is very disturbing to me.

we have become a disposable society, our landfills are filling up faster and faster every year because of folks and their germ phobias (which are fed by the media and the paper product companies). god forbid you might get a little bit of dirt on your hands and have to use a CLOTH towel to dry your hands after you wash them. or wipe up a spill with a kitchen towel and actually WASH it. and don't even get me started on disposable diapers.. lol.

I see what you mean, my 150 has been set up longer than the average person lives in their house.

I saw a 125 today. It was reef ready with a wet/dry. Came with stand (no hood, no lights, no glass top), sump, and little giant pump. Asking price: $1,000. I think I threw up in my mouth a bit there...

Sorry to double-post, but as soon as I left MFK I checked my email. I found a reply to a local yard sale that advertised on Craigslist. They just said they had a fish tank...no other info given. So, I sent an email to see if I could find out size, dimensions, and amount of this mystery tank before driving over. Their response should further illustrate our plight over here on the East coast:

The fish tank is a 10 gallon tank, and measures 10x20x12.5 inches. (WxLxH) I am asking $50 for the whole deal, which includes the tank, adequate gravel, two filters (One lining the bottom powered bty aeration, and the other mounts to the side), a cover, and the fitting flourescent light. I am also thowing in all of the accessories such as a back drop, cleaner, decorations, and some tubing and joints for the tubing. The tank is in excellent condition, and I simply moved off to college, that is why I no longer use it. (The folks didn't want to watch my fish while I was gone!) Hope this helps!

Still better than South Texas.

A MASSIVE tank is 30-55
And anything over 55 and they act like you have the ocean.

But I'm am grateful fot that 135$ full 55g setup I got! :]

Ok and how often do you see anything over 200 gallons for sale in Oklahoma? People look at me crazy when I say I have a 90 gallon in my living room, then when I tell them I have a 240 gallon they say I'm nuts and you don't even want to know what they say when I tell them I am building an indoor pond for my catfish this Spring and that I have 17 horses! All that I can say it that I love my catfish and my horses!
