Well i learned the hard way about keeping bichirs with other fish. I had read many posts of them basically being peaceful unless they have bite size tankmates. Well after a few weeks this seemed to be their general behavior. Well four days ago my baby Tig.. about 6 inches.. was swimming funny... I thought he was going through the Tig die for no reason syndrome because up until then he was very active eating black worms and shrimp. BTW he was in a tank with a short body albino.. two delhezis and one ornate all about his size or a little smaller. Well the next day I saw the Tig swim up into a decoration that the ornate always chilled in. I saw the Tig thrashing violently about and when he finally came out he had a bite on his gills and one on his face.. His barbels ? were shredded... Well I moved all the bichirs out and thought he would be ok.. I woke up today three days later to him on his side dead... Bichirs are not to be trusted.. I know I should probably have a small Tig in it's own tank. I am tempted to throw them in with the Fahaka but I won't....

they can get sandy from time to time but this is not the norm from what I understand havent kept a lot of them but stories like these are few and far between... don't give up man...

Sorry about your loss. This concerns me, as I've kept bichirs with tigrinus and juruense with no problems.

Yea I did not think anything of it. I may just have a really mean tempered ornate. The really bad part was the Tig lived for three days after the attack and his wounds were healling but he was not eating and constantly cruisiing the tank. He tried to fight but did not succeed.. :(

fish are smarter than we give them credit for I'm going to Upload a video of feeding time in my tank. All five senegalas, the arowana, and the goby come to the side of the tank when I shake their can of food. I hand feed everyone of them and if one get greety and trys to take off my finger I bop it on the head with the spear.
