I am of the mind set that if people want to get passed the past, they need to let go of it and move on. People who have been victimized in the past who insist on maintaining their raw, open wounds instead of letting them heal do nothing but hurt their cause. I see a lot of people in this thread who are growing increasingly frustrated with transsexual folks thanks to this conversation.

The majority is the greatest ally of any minority group who wishes to be accepted. By alienating members of the majority who may be amicable to your cause by 'reminding' them of transgressions committed by people who look like them in the past, you'll never gain their support and acceptance and all of us as a community will never move on.

Well said. It's the quiet voice of reason that gets things changed, not the spitfires yelling at the wall. Telling people to change is the fasted way to get them to dig in their heels about something.

But its not about you. Additionally, that slur was used against mtf transpeople, but it was ftm transpeople who have been trying to reclaim it and are ok with it. Its just a gigantic mess, and I don't understand why its so important for you to be able to say that one word.

I dont understand why you cant grasp some of us arnt gonna live our lives limiting what we do because it might offend one person.

Its hard for you to understand because you more than likely never have and never will have those words thrown at you. And getting frustrated at transpeople because you've been told you shouldn't say something hurtful is entirely immature.

yes. it's not even that i'm making it about me. it's just that i couldn't care less if the porn industy uses the word in a bad way. if a lot of people use the word in a bad way, that doesn't mean i use it in the same way. and i shouldn't have stop using the word just because of that.

And you are right, I will never have 'tranny' thrown at me. But I have had racial slurs thrown at me, even got into trouble for fighting for it when in high school. Use the same words on me now, and I laugh at your ignorance. It doesn't have power over me anymore, so I don't care who uses it. Yelling and screaming about it didn't work. Fighting didn't work. Learning to laugh it off did though. Just my 2 cents.

Do either of you use racial slurs? Those are much larger communities, and there are many more racial slurs than there are slurs about transpeople. But I assume you don't feel limited because you cant walk about saying those things.
