Do You Ever Think of Cutting Back on This Hobby?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've felt like cutting back a few times before but when I attempted it I only ended up expanding.

I feel like some of these guys described. A lot of my time is consumed to maintaining the tanks and it's not as fun as it used to be when I only have two tanks. I'm leaning toward to going back with just two tanks. The bad economy does have something to do with it. You got to have MONEY to keep these tank running. No money mean no tanks and no honey.

If you are struggling financially CUT BACK. Although some people may not thinks so, you are more important that your fish.

I'm still upgrading =). I wonder when I will have to cut back =p.

im going back up the tank sizes around november.

i have once though, pain from my disability was getting the better of me so i was beginning to cave in and the first to go was the big tank. couldnt manage the maintenance and it wasnt fair on the fish to suffer as well.

I am not struggling financially to maintain them. I just feel I am loosing so much time trying to maintain the tanks. I have 5 tanks running right now and I know this is not a lot to a lot of people. I feel like it was more fun when I only have two tanks to worry about with water changes, feeding, equipment maintainance, and etc. Having extra tanks does add up the expense in the long run for equipment maintainance and electricity. I feel that if I am not having as much fun with so many tanks why bother going through. I am just wondering if any other there feel this way.

I think you're at the point I was FishNCash.

I went back to having two tanks - a 150g and a 29g sw tank. I feel that now I can work on expanding my saltwater tank to a reef tank and really put all my time, effort and cash into these two tanks to make them look amazing.

For example, good lighting for my reef tank will be upwards of $250. When I was managing all those other tanks before lighting would have been put on the back burner.

If your not having fun doing it then why do it? I suppose it's something to think about for awhile before making a choice though.

have you worked on cutting down your maintanence time? I know you have a thread about it and some MFK'ers, including myself made some suggestions to help you.

if you can become more efficient at the water changes etc. you won't need to cut back.

that way you can enjoy your full hobby and still have lots of time for yourself.
