I apologized shortly afterwards to both the kid and the parent. I don't work at that shop either, it's gone downhill in the past few years. If you perceived sound as I do, you'd understand. A small child screaming looks like someone ripping their ribcage open with their bare hands. Synesthesia has it's draw backs, and that example is a big one.

it probly wlda been better to explain to the kid the fishs name and other info

I did afterwards, to almost everything in the shop. The funny part is how they came in wanting saltwater and left wanting freshwater. I think it was the blue rams that did it. Come to think of it, I almost always end up with children following me around the shops for a "tour". They have better eyes than I do, so it helps finding nano-fish and shrimp.

Just remembered a rather funny LFS visit. I was with one of my friends that frequents this place with me. As usual, a little kid finds the clownfish, points, and says, "Look Ma, Nemo." My friend being a Latin student previously told me that Nemo means 'no name' in latin. I told the kid this and she goes, "You mean the fishy doesn't have a name?" and then proceeds to give names to everything in the shop. With 4,000 square feet, she got pretty creative. It was hilarious! Mom had a good time as well.

When I hear somebody walk in and point at the "Nemo", it sparks my information dispensation bug because I instantly assume they know nothing at all. The truth is, people are suckers for cuteness. Even the driest, most mature and well-educated people may crumble into floppy mush if you stuff a puppy into their hands. Once you actually start talking to a "Nemo" admirer, you will find out the truth about how much they know or care about fishkeeping.
