For example i know this might sound horrible but

I have a gold oscar who is a menace he is small about 3-4" but he constantly makes a dead sprint towards the arowana and makes him jump so i put him in a divider for a lil and fed the aro more than him now the aro is bigger and he doesnt seem to bother him.

But someone at my lfs was saying how he took his fish in the net and would actually move the net back and forth and would stress the fsh if he attacked one of his other fish like that. I think that is kind of over doing it he said this way if that fish doesnt defend itself it will remember that you will do that if he was to attack the other fish:nilly:

Personally imo i didnt think fish had a conscience so i never thought of such a crazy idea wondering if you guys ever heard of nething like that?

When I had a kissing gouramie who was overly amourous to the rest of it's mates in a community tank,

I used to chase it around the tank with a siphon tube or net - no effect.

I used to take the siphon tube & try to bop it on it's head - no effect.

I also was one to catch it in a net do the hokey pokey & swish it all around - no effect.

I would isolate it in a bucket for an hour - no effect.

But one day when doing a w/c - it jumped out w/o me knowing it - BIG EFFECT! FINAL DESTINATION EFFECT!

I had to try this out so I went into my fish room where my Oscar was in his tank pushing around gravel. I reached in and socked him right in his fat face and sure enough he stopped moving the gravel around. I guess it works...

That is just funny as hell.

WTF. This is turning into an abuse-promoting thread. Conditioning is one thing, but taking fish out of water, smacking them, putting them in buckets and most things mentioned here, even by me, are not in the good spirit of giving our animals the best care. Keeping a fish out of water for a short period is akin to shoving someone's head underwater and holding it there.

My guess is the vast majority of these punishments are suggested sarcastically... but the sad part is there are influential people reading this thread taking it at face value... and torturing their animals because of it...

I think this thread is awful...

Makes me ashamed to be on the forum right now. Can we get this deleted?
