Do you talk to your fish?

Without a shadow of a doubt fish do not understand the words I speak they do however understand the emotion and energy being projected at them. I am not of the inclination that believes fish to be stupid and possessed of litttle to no intelligence.

I will use a perfect recent point in case. In my 180g sw my now juvi koran angel went on the warpath and my engineer goby was literally being eaten alive as the koran would rip of chunks of flesh. When I came to the net to try to get the engineer I looked at him and told him I was sorry that I had not seen this earlier and that I was going to take him to a better tank. Usually this fish is very hard to net as it hides under the live rock. This time it simply swam to the front corner and curled up and basically swam into the net, no effort. The only movement it made in the net was upward in an effort to get out of the tank as the net moved to the surface.

Chicken skin my adult red devil went nuts in a new tank I had placed him and some other bigger fish in, I caught him and threw him into an isolation 100g tank and left him there for 5 days. The first morning after I had put him in the tank he was constantly in the corner closest to the walk way making sure that he caught my eye. After his 5 days in solitary were up I put him back into the tank with the big boys, not one bit of issue since. I did also tell him that I could cook him and that I did have very sharp knives.

People may think I am whacked and gonzo, but, I have found with all my animals that they respond very well to the respect that I have for them as a life form. Even my kids are totally wigged out at my relationship I have with my animals. Though I do say again I am pretty sure that if I were small enough I would be lunch.

maybe she's scared they'll eat her. Maybe in fish talk they are teasing her! I wonder if they would theoretically understand each other like in the movies.....
Very pretty cat, by the way

No...they're gentle jovial giants who are very interested in the world outside their tank. I'm sure they would prefer being outside their tank, rather than inside..if they could! They are very curious about the world outside of their tank.....and it's more than just "feed me feed me"...Sometimes I feel like I'm the one in the fishbowl! They are very very doglike in their behavior...they're like our water dogs....they like to be pet and will push each other out of the way to be pet. They will swim in place to be pet on the head. Sometimes I dance and flail my arms around. They watch and watch and seemed as entertained by me as we're entertained by them!......Yeah, so I absolutely talk to them anytime I'm near them. We talk to them as we would to a dog or a cat.

Oh I don't doubt the intelligence of animals, they figure you out, they know what to expect from you and how you are doing.
My betta pays me the most attention, because I am the one that takes care of him. Fishkeh sees me as often as my husband, but he definitely has a more positive reaction to me (Hello person! as opposed to meh, person). He even flares up at people that he has issues with, and hides from those he is unfamiliar with.

He doesn't flare at your finger, but he will attack his mirror for hours.
I will sit and watch him for hours just moving around his tank and taking care of whatever super important betta business he has.

I do its actually proven to relieve stress if you talk to your pets about your problems

Jajajaja love the thread.

I have three common subjects while talking with fish.

1- how nice they look jajajajaja.
2- How much they eat
3- And in some cases when Im specially angry with one of them for bulling tankmates.

Great pics Pacu mom!!!

I don't necessarily have full conversations with them, but I do "what's up guys or move over" every now and then as I pass the tank or doing maintenance. My kids talk to them a heck of alot more than me. Hell my oldest daughter told me that her betta had a french accent lol..........
