Water quality, diet, and tank size....Bigger the better...Best example is the Oscars....Ever seen an Oscar growout in a well filtered 30-40g????In MOST cases, the Oscar still showed stunt growth....Even with a varied diet and water changes every week.....
40g...PetSmart 2inch growout...My buddy's O grew to only 6 inches with a crooked back....That fish survived for seven years in that condition before being traded back in....Today, that same owner has been educated well enough(by me)...Now has a thriving Tiger Oscar.....He uses the same filtration that was used on the origanal 40, a Fluval 403(old school number)....Same weekly water changes...Same diet of Hikari pellets and mealworms....Only difference now is the 100g that I hooked him up with....From 2in to 9in in 2 years is average satisfacton....
In conclusion, I believe that tank size does play a big part in the growouts' life....
