Do you think its right to...

I can see where there would be good reasons for one to have a venomoid snake...
Educational purposes would be a good reason, to educate the general public on them.
Training purposes, to allow someone who's goal to work with hot reptiles a chance to get used to a certain species temperment, behavior, learn proper handling techniques BEFORE jumping right into "the real thing"
Medical purposes, where the animal would benefit from the procedure.
In any of these cases, it would ONLY EVER be acceptable if performed properly by an experienced and professional veterinarian.

I suppose, when it comes down to it. People declaw cats, there is a danger of getting scratched by a cat... but with or without claws, a cat can't KILL YOU. There is a HUGE difference between a "dangerous" animal and a "DEADLY" animal. I'm not advocating decalwing cats OR devenomizing snakes. But when you try to compare the two it really isn't very similar. Even professionals get bitten by thier hot animals, as others have said "it's not IF you get bit, but WHEN"
Personally, I would rather see it legal and done proffesionally, than have more incidents of it being done improperly, thus jeopardizing not only the people who have those snakes, but others around them.

I DONT agree with it either! What do you think Im disagreeing with?

I understand on the last part. But I do think there should only be RARE and very special circumstances for doing it. If you legalise it everyone can then keep venomous snakes.

Why own one if you don't want to put up with the venom?

There are so many beautiful snakes out there that are alternatives.

Um... it is already legal to own venomoids in places where venomous are allowed.

The only thing vets won't do the procedure since if something go wrong with the snake and its owner, then they are legally responsible for it.

Exactly! If people want a snake, there are so many good choices! Its just the coolness factor. And those type of people are certainly much cooler when we dont have to deal with them, giving our hobby a bad name.

And of course if a snake develops some problem with its venom glads that requires removal, go ahead. Kinda like removing an appendix I guess.

What was your opinion on the stingrays though? I just think that clipping should be done for touch tanks, and thats about it. No surgical removal or anything, because its keratin. (It is keratin right?)

I never said you didn't disagree with it. :screwy: Here we go.

You asked me WHY I AGREED WITH IT. I said I don't.
Nothing about you. Jeez your making it seem like I'm being personal again.

It's not legal in the UK. Thats where I'm talking about since I'm from there.

I disagree that hots venom glands should be left intact but stingrays can have their stings removed.

In the UK, you need a permit to own venomous, so that should not be a concern at all. In Canada and the States you don't need a permit in areas that are legal to own them.

You DID say you disagree with me on the venom topic. Im just not sure which part of it. I was asking a question, not making a statement.

She disagreed with the stingray tail-clipping. However that topic is already been established and done with; both sides already expressed their reasons why. Now they are just personal opinions here.

Now do you think stingrays should have stingers REMOVED or CLIPPED?

Just so were clear: I think snakes should keep their fangs, and rays have their stingers clipped.

I agree, everyone has stated reasons, its mostly opinion now. BUT, I do want to clear it up, because Im not sure who thinks what. :)
