Well, a little progress. Drying time sure slows things down.

Padding - Although I do not like Styrofoam, I believe that a buffer is necessary to compensate for imperfections in lumber. I glued strips (1.5" wide) of foam-rubber anti-fatigue mat around the surface where the tank will sit.

Time to start skinning!

Well, we've finally started with the finishing. The stand and canopy will be skinned with 1/4" oak plywood and trimmed with solid oak moldings. All holes are filled with stain-able wood filler and will be sanded once it dries.

Here is a close up of one front corner.

This is the stand from the front.....so far. We have added 2 vertical supports, for the doors, which will be primed and painted as well.

That's it for now. I hope to update again soon. I pick up the tank tomorrow.

Well, I picked up the tank yesterday and planned to post pics tonight.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer did such a brutal job of prepping the tank for pick-up that I have some serious clean-up to do before I would be comfortable adding photos to this thread. :irked:

Hopefully on the weekend.

Nice work, look forward to seeing the tank on it and how you are gonna plumb it.

BTW what kind of screws do you use with the kreg jig? Looking at getting me one.

Kreg sells their own branded screws. They are a washer head, self-tapping wood screw with a square drive. There's a chart that tells you what length to use for the thickness of material you're using. You could probably find a generic screw that will work, but the Kreg brand are reasonably priced so I just buy them.

My jig came with a few "sample packs" of Kreg brand screws. They are identical to "particle board screws" but more expensive and not readily available here.

My Home Depot carries particle board screws in larger packs so that is what I went with. The washer head really helps pull the boards together and keep a firm "bite".

A big Thank You to all for the positive comments thus far. Hope fully the finished product is worthy. ;)
