Dodge Challenger Hellcat....over 700 hp..are you kidding me?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hello Kitty just took a back seat in the American performance car world.
Roush released the 777hp Mustang this week. (Finally glad we can talk about it in public - Haha.)

The 2015 Stage 3.
Earlier I was discussing this with some guys and they all agree that it is not a fair comparison since this stang is pretty much enhanced with after market add ons and not stock from Ford.Matt, what are your thoughts on that?

I would agree, the direct Mustang comparison would be the Shelby GT500 I would think, not the Roush or Hennessey versions.

My thought is that is that Roush does a lot of the design/R&D for the Mustang that Ford sells (and many other performance cars as well). This is a hopped up production version you can buy right off the show room floor with a warranty - just the like Dodge. It would be like saying SRT variations are aftermarket.

Shoot, the new Ford Racing supercharger kit is a Roush product. Says Ford and Roush right on it.

That's kind of how I see it...if something is offered, ordered, and installed at Ford then that is close enough for me.

I guess it's hard to say without known whom is tweaking the Hellcat. If it's internal at Dodge, then I would count those two Mustangs are aftermarket in regards to a comparison. If it's outside just like them, then it's a fair comparison. And this comes from a Mustang guy btw.

But you can buy a Callaway Corvette at a Chevy dealer too, but no one considers it a 'stock' Corvette. When doing dealer comparisions, it was always the ZR1 or Z51 or whatever those crazy people are calling those fugly boats today.

Well, I guess you can go back to a a non-Roush Mustang....with a dealer ordered Ford supercharger package to clear the hp mark.

So DB, what's the deal with these drag packs?? :D

Turn key drag cars. No radio, no extra seats, factory cage. They are part numbers. Not sure about VIN # legality but I believe you can't title them for road use.

They've been on top gear before...... They did Challenger VS Cobra Jet. Not sure the details on the Stang but the Challenger had a Viper V10 in it and they ended up having to let off the thing cause it NEEDED wheelie bars. The thing still ran a high 8 if I remember correctly.

This is why I kinda scratched my head about all the "hellcat" publicity. That Drag Pack Challenger is fast. The Hell Kiddy is several seconds slower in the quarter.

You know I bet Hellcat's aren't even that fun to drive. People have no idea how far car technology has come. They're friggin pinching brakes now. Get that thing cocked sideways and throttle's gone, brakes applied, car's straight - with or without you liking it. Hemi's are fly by wire. Have been since day 1. Think you ever actually get 100% throttle from a stop? Nope. Car says we're not moving, we'll give you most, but not all of it. Sure you can turn traction control off, but you can't turn stability control off.

Know what happens IF you're smart enough to bypass this stuff? CV shafts snap, rip quarter panels out and total the car. That can happen with LESS then 600 HP. The cars simply aren't built for it. Technology allows a car to be built with cheaper parts cause computers simply limit power in un ideal circumstances.

This is why someday before I die I hope to own a Viper. A car with none of this traction control, stability control garbage. A car that takes driver skill to drive. Sure, they aren't as fast as other stuff out there, but they are some of the last TRUE muscle cars.

That was really nice of Jay.
