Does anyone on here own pet rats?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had 1 pet rat that i loved, kind of,then i was laying on the bed and she was crawling next to me on some old blanket i put down and she started sniffing around my face.It was cute actualy until she bit and pulled my eyelid with her teeth!AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH.I hated her after that,or at least i was a bit scared of her, lol.Ive not held a rat since, frozen baby.Still think they are cute and all but what the hell did it bite me for?Hard too!:irked::popcorn:

Mine always sit on my head, shoulder, face, wherever they want to and have never even thought about biting. They are sooo gentle.
I sure would hate it, if something should happen to either one of them.

That's how we lost all our pet rats. The develop a tumor, lose their hair, then die. It sucks ass, but it's pretty much normal:(
We had some that were definately not lab rats (dumbo rats) that went the same way.

Rats are great pets while they live, but they don't live very long.

Are you guys serious about only 2 years? All of mine have lived at least 3 years, some for 4. None were albinos though. All were hooded, or hairless. Yes, some do have a biting tendency, it's just part of their personality, just as some human kids do bad things for attention.

I should mention, also, that all of mine died peacefully. Some were slightly hunched backed - but none had tumors. This has me wondering about diet.
What have you guys been feeding yours?

Here are mine, They are great. There about 1.5 years now and healthy. Here is a shot when they were small.
