Does anyones fish keeping hoby get them in trouble

My parents get mad sometimes, but when I'm out of town they feed my fish for me. They're always bragging to everyone about all of my fish and there's always people coming over to see everything. But on the other hand they're proud of how savvy I am at picking up cheap or FREE tanks. Like the new 125 and stand I got for FREE! They didn't even bat an eye when we carried it downstairs. My mom is happy that 2 of my catfish will be getting more room. I don't think they're looking forward to me moving out and having to haul three 6 ft tanks out of the basement, or bagging up all of those big fish, I think they'll expect me to leave some tanks there and just come by to do water changes.

i would imagine most parents would be ok you spending your time and money on fish and tanks cos it could be spent on much worse things, like drugs and alcohol. i would be very proud if my kids were so mature about a hobby and leading a good path into adulthood.

i acctually just through one of my sons stuffed animals across the room because we r moving and my in laws dont want piranah in there house apparently ... we r moving into the basement now i have to fight for a permit otherwise they go

Haha i broke up with my girlfriend recently and she said "good luck finding somone that will put up with your fish nonesense" lol

Could you imagine what the house would look like if two passionate fish keepers united? WOW

Do you guys get in trouble with family due to your fish keeping hobby, mines were not too stoked at first when the space taking up gradually got larger as well as trapsing through the house with buckets of water lol

I get in trouble every time I get a new tank, which is why they are split up between my grandparents (where I live) and my boyfriend's house. He's so wonderful, I let him have his hunting obsession and he tolerates my fish....even if it takes up half his living room. It works out

Thats cool man, wish i could pick up wonderful big tanks for nada, in Scotland it is a popular hobby i suppose but its a small country and there is'nt alot going round and if there is its picked up real quick.

Well im gonna be moving out soon so i guess i will have the same deal, cos its them that look after my guys when im at sea, thats where my trouble begins lol. I guess i do have alot to be grateful for despite the grumblings

Ha yeah, my biggest tanks came out like this:
125 with oak stand, lids, lights, filther, heaters, powerheads, gravel, $225
180 w/ iron stand, lids $25 (not a typo)
125 w/ oak stand lids FREE
90 w/ wood stand, lids, lights & 55g w/ iron stand, lids - $100

They didn't mind those deals at all.

Haha yep looks like most of us are in she same boat. My parents have sort of got use to it now but for the first few years i just got shouted at for the buckets of water thing when doin water changes and then the electricity bill (that i dont pay for, only 17) i started out with a 40g then another 40g a 150g and now a 400g they werent happy that half the house had to be taken appart to get it in lol they dont much like the 4 vivariums i have either.
Not to mention the finantial trouble i get myself into.

My wife's not at that point yet. But i think if I spent as much money on her as I do on my fish I might get to see her naked more often.

You are either very lucky or a good haggler haha either way you are blessed haha.

I keep my eyes open for good deals on the local aquarium classifieds but folk from the UK are blatently less willing to give a good deal on old tanks haha

Luck has a lot to do with it. Right place at the right time I guess. As for trouble with the hobby, I forgot to mention that my gf is really cool about my fish keeping, she loves to feed them, help with water changes, and even came to an MFK meet with me. I'm a little concerned that it may change when we get a place together, but I think it grows on her more all the time.
