Quick ? for all-

I was running a xp3 and a xp2 on a tank-Ran nothing but bio media in-
I generally run a mix of stuff-Anything from chem stars to ceramic rings to ehiem media-

I had a major problem with something white floating on top of my water--Nothing introduced into tank....Could never really get rid of it until now---
I completely broke down tank and spent over 8 hours cleaning it(yes I am anal about this part)...After removing the bio media and setting it up with nothing more than the pads used for mechanical filtration-the problem is now gone---

So-was my bio media causing my problems---If so-Which media that I was useing was breaking down and causeing it----I dont suspect the stars since they are black-And the ehiem I use is not white as well---Only the ceramic rings-----

Are they my problem?Anyone else ever expierence this before.....

i run rings in my xp3 also and haven't experienced it, seems feasible though.

Like a foam? Either way that could have been anything from your water conditioner to high protein in the water. I would say it would have been easier remedied by water changes and maybe washing your bio media with tank water.

the ceramic media would break down after time, but were talking years upon years. the corosion would be so slow that you should not be noticing a build up of it.

No foam-
Literally small specs of the stuff......Kinda like ICh just floating ontop of the water-

The stuff floats but yet is heavy....Kinda weird.....I will suck it out with every water change and the next day it is back in full force.....Like I never even cleaned the tank...

I dont use water conditioner on a standard basis---When I do though-I use nothing but Prime for my water.....

I dont wash my bio media all the time-Maybe every 6 to 8 months....

can you put a fine mech net on the output of the filter? This will tell you if its coming from the filter.

How strange. Bad batch of rings? I got some crappy ceramic stuff made for a cascade filter but I have not seen this yet its almost 4 years old now.

Wish you would have suggested this sooner-

I have since cleaned the filters completely and removed bio media-It is now setup as a mechanical filter....there is no presence of it now-
