does fish feel pain

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yea

no they are mindless swimming logs j.k
they do

I'd say they feel it. I know they would be uncofortable already, but a couple times I had to pull leaches off my fish with tweezers. And some of those leeches are stubborn, so when those guys decide not to pop out easy, and I give 4 second long tug, those fish go wild, and start flpping out (literally). So i'd say they feel pain.

If fish did not feel pain at all, why don't we see a lot of dead fish, after they attacked, and kept attacking and going after the convict fry, oblivious to the defending parents ripping them to shreds?

yeah im sure they do. but i do too so whatever. everyone goes through something painful. just have to end it for them fast. I just prefer to take a really big sharp knife and then i sever the spinal chord. and chop off the head quickly. then i slice open the gut and clean out the insides. then i scale them and butterfly them and season until ready. then pre heat the oven to 400'f...ooops this was about fish pain...im sorry i was gettin hungry. hahahah....MFE for life

Hmmm, I guess they feel pain, but to what extent. Every once in a while when I put some silversides in the tank, some of the mummichogs will try to eat them. Though the are to big to eat, they always seem to pop the eyes out of them and then they sort of just drift away. They still swim around, just they stay still more. I would think they would be panicing all over the place, maybe they feel so much pain that they go into shock and coma's...interseting....very interesting...

most living things on the planet have some kind of nervious system....trees and such are not included....So I would have to say yea....I bet they do....They bleed don't they? They have brains, don't they?
Jen ;)

Yeah, they do have a brain...but they do not have a neo-cortex. Thats what allows humans to feel pain. I believe fish feel something un-pleasent, they must in order to know something is wrong. That and fish react to pain. Some people say they do not react to pain but fish and most animals try to hide pain sometimes so they do not look weak.

With the neo-cortex your talking about emotional pain. Of course they feel physical pain.
