Does melafix even work?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
melafix and pimafix are total cash-grabs. not worth what you're paying for. they don't treat what they claim to. i honestly don't know how the company stays in business with bs products like that. you may as well just put green tea in your tank.

Same company that sells "freshwater aquarium salt..." which is really just SALT.

I have to agree, they're pretty useless products when used alone. I have had some success using a combination of Melafix and Pimafix, 50-50. Used in this way, it will help heal minor wounds and eye cloudiness. Then again, salt and water changes will do the same thing. Cash grab?

The mere mention of that substance realllllllllly peeeeeves me off. It killed off one of my tanks. I found that it caused my water to have a soapy consitency and sucked all the oxygen out of the water. I will never ever use the stuff again. Anything that smells like tea tree oil should not go in a tank imho.

I was using Melafix up until last week. It did not do anything. But if anyone know of a product that will clear up tufts, cottony patches, and fungus please post.

Ive used both and didnt see any results, only thing I liked about them, cant remember which one but one or both smelled really good :)

Melafix smells likes eucalyptus trees.

Ok you're so right. Yesterdy I got home to my afflicted tank and all the fish were sucking air from the surface even though the tank is very well aerated and the filtration was running fine. I also noticed that the water was REALLLY cloudy. I did a huge water change and the fish seem fine now. the water still smells like maleleuca though (apparently what melafix is made out of). NEVER EVER EVER using it again.

weird, always worked for me. i buy the pond version since it's more concentrated.

Melafix works in healing damaged fins and wounds.

clean water and some dissolved salt will do the exact same thing, with less stress to your fish, because even with a little dissolved salt, they can still get o2 from the airpumps and filters agitating your water surface, unlike the mela/pimafix whichs inhibits this due to the oils.

lol exactly. i simply use regular table salt in my tanks if need be. it is cheaper on the wallet and is the same stuff that the aquarium brands sell for more.

it's all about marketing. a successful marketer can get a person to buy bags of "fresh air". Look at bottled water, natural springs my ass. the nestle brand's water is taken from city water. same as out of the tap. marketing ingenuity.
