Does non-stop fighting amongst African cichlids often end in death.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My setup is mixed and a month old, they are all under 3 inches. The lab is king of the tank and sets the rules already. My male has black pec fins. A good LFS can vent them to tell m/f.

Ok,what about adding the beaten lab along with three or more new fish?

Maybe pick up a couple of medium size goldfish (too big for them to eat) as dithers/targets and add them all back at the same time.

Well it seems as though everything is calmer since I took the one beaten new lab out.The continous pounding on the other new Lab has turned into very brief chases.Should I add the targets and the and the new lab that I took out once he has healed it's wounds?

I usually rearrange most or all of the rockwork when I add new fish to a mbuna tank. Some have talked about adding fish then covering the tank for 24 hours, total dark.I havent tried it but sounds like it might work.

:nono: Okay adding a few targets isn't a bad idea, but adding goldfish is a horrible idea, unless of course you want a tank full of sick fish. Feeders are kept in such horrible conditions. It would cost a lil more but i would try giant danios.

Ummmm if you buy your goldfish from a reputable dealer they will be fine. I dont know where you buy your feeders from, sounds like petco.:screwy:

I did rearange the rocks. It did help the new ones fight back a little but they eventually gave up.I then took the badly beaten one out and left the other new one in that was doing better and they seemed to calm down. But I think covering the tank for 24 hours might work as well.I'll give it a try once the beaten new lab has healed.
