Does this agreement sound fair?

Here's a better idea. Definitely will give you more of an incentive to perform well. If you don't average B's, you get thrown out of the house. You want a bribe to do what you should? Would you pay a guy not to crap on your doorstep?

+1.

That's the arrangement my parents and I had. Guess what? I got A's and B's.

Do you want to stand around strumming a bass guitar all your life?
Haha, if I could survive doing that, I would! I play bass/guitar in a few different bands, but mostly for churches and stuff. I still have the dream of being a musician though.

I've also always had problems with motivation. Until probably my 6th or 7th year of school, I always got straight A's without putting in any effort. Even in high school, I didn't try that hard. I knew I wanted to go to college, so I took the higher level classes and did ok, but could have done better. I'm pretty smart, but I'm a terrible student. Now that I'm in college, being smart and not putting in that much work doesn't cut it anymore, and that came back to bite me last year. Here, my motivation comes from scholarships. If I just pass my classes and don't go for the A's or at the very least B's, I will lose several thousand dollars-that's my motivation.

Liam, this is something you need to do on your own, not with your parents bribes. Let me put it this way, you can get motivation now, and have time to ease into reality, or you can just be thrown into reality and be forced to get motivated.

Remember the kids that when they got an a there parents woudl give thme 20.00 or more. So that all they really cared about.Did pay attention to much just wanted the money and got lucky someitmes to get a's. But what happens when your parents arent there and your living your life. Nobody will be paying you to do something. You have to work to get money. Just think hard what you want to do. If i were you i would finish school , some lpaces to work you ned high school diploma.Just remember it is better to do things then to regret it in the future.

"You have to be your own motivation"
Hope that hepls

sorry man, but youre just young and ignorant right now. try to think about the long term. how will the decisions you make right now affect your life 5, 10, 15yrs down the road? mummy and daddy wont always be around to bail you out.

get your head out of your ass and start thinking like an adult. work hard now, enjoy the benefits later

Spoken like a true scholar... :D

On a serious note, statistics does show that a person with a better education does better in life financially. I'm not saying its all about money but all of us need it. If a piece of paper and two more years in school will be your key to that, by all means go for it.

Stay in school as long as possible.
It seems like forever now, but as you get older each year passes by faster and faster.

I dropped out of college to go into the family biz, a restaurant.
While working there I went to Culinary school and became a Chef.
The economy forced my Parent's to sell the restaurant.

Now I'm 36 and unemployed.
As a Chef I am looking at starting from scratch, having to prove myself once again and rise through the ranks of a miserable kitchen once more.
But now I'm older, slower, fatter and can't take the freaking heat.
And I know there's no security in my field, no loyalty, no retirement fund ect... Not to mention that there's lots of illegals willing to do the work for way less than me.
Basically I can't compete any more.

So now, I better go back to school for a new field.

At 36 it is pretty scary to start over. I'm loosing my house, car, girlfriend, foreclosing and going bankrupt.

I'll be moving into my Mom's den for awhile.

So, again my advice is stick it out now while your young and
Stay in school as long as possible. The real world sucks.

In my personal opinion, you're making a mistake. Believe me, I know what you're going through. We're around the same age, and you seem to have many of the same problems I do. Ever since I started going to school, I've had almost no motivation whatsoever. Now, I've got a pretty high intellect, so throughout the first years of school I didn't even have to try at all and I could get A's with hardly any work. However, that kind of ended this year and some of last year (I'm in 8th grade). I could still probably get straight B's without trying at all. However, rather than rewarding me when I do well, my parents decided to punish me if I didn't. They used to try to reward me, and I'll tell you that I got far better grades when they punished me. It's been said by a lot of great people that fear is one of the greatest motivators. Personally, I have to agree with that. Another thing to keep in mind is that habits tend to stay with you for awhile. If you build habits now that are negative, they're going to stay with you for awhile.
For example, if you're not motivated in school, odds are that you won't be in work either. We all know how that will turn out. The bottom line is, staying in school is always a better decision, unless you absolutely need to get out, which from my understanding you don't. Stay in school, and you're bound to have a better life.

You have your life ahead...keep your options open. Finish school, try university out. Your first year you primarily take a variety of intro classes anyways. There is a general education requirement in most cases, you don't just take classes for your major. If you don't like it, go to work.

I'm graduating college soon, i have a good job outlook currently (geographic information systems). But i don't necessarily see it being what i do for the rest of my life.
