Don't buy ABS pipe

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
does the abs have a foam core? some abs pipe is foam coated with abs plastic on the inside and outside, this will float.

abs fittings and some pipe is pure abs, and sinks.

drill a hole in it and the water weight will make it sink

ABS's density is 1.04 grams per cubic centimeter or 0.0376 pounds per cubic inch. Even though it's denser than water, it is strongly hydrophobic so small pieces can "float" due to surface tension.

just i case we are not talking about the same stuff

Nope, those are fitting, I bought the pipe. I thought about buying the fittings but they are expencive. When you cut the pipe it seems to have air pockets. Also the smaller pipe seems to not have the air pockets, I'm using 4". I just hot glued rocks to it,and it sinks now.

fill the bottom with your substrate!

This is what I did, but all of the above works.

My 2 4" ABS fittings now sink, but initially they floated like corks. My P. Afer knife LOVES his mini hideout, plus it's like a safe house for all the fish, nobody gets messed with when there in there.

tie rocks to it :) or fill it with gravel with knife fish it should stay down for a while they don't kick up sediment to much my tire track eel all ways pushed out all the gravel and the pvc would bob up to the top daily very annoying
