Dont drink and fill...

Today I did my biweekly 50% water change on my 125g Oscar tank. I hook a 15' rubber hose up to the laundry tub and sit back and watch tv while its filling. I decided to watch a movie and have a few drinks. An hour later I feel my feet getting wet and in a panic I run over and grab the hose from the tank end and sprint over to the laundry tub while trying to stop the water flow with my thumb... bad idea. Now after about 2 hours of wet vac-ing the floor and another 30min of wiping down the walls, I've learned my lesson.

Don't get drunk and play loud movies while doing water changes with a hose. :irked:


Just so I don't feel so bad, what were some of your worst moments while fish keeping?
 
I've had my fair share of situations like this. I was really good for throwin g the garden hose in the pond or pool to top them off and forgetting. Throwing burgers on the grill and finding charcoal on the grates an hour later. Hooking the hose up to fill a water bed and forgetting, you'd be surprised how much those things stretch.

When I first started using a sump i put my return hose like 3/4 of the way into the tank. The hose disconnected and back siphoned over 100 gallons of water onto the carpet... Luckily it was summer and its extremely dry here so a shop vac and fan cleared up everything. It sucked like hell though

An HR to fill 50% of a 125? You must have been REALLY whacked..

I run the tap slowly so I don't take up all the water pressure in the house. It usually takes a little over 30 for me to fill 50%, so the other 30min it must have been spilling over the top lol. It made one hell of a mess though. I'm lucky that the floor is just concrete with carpet over top.
 
No the drinking part is fine, I drink all the time while doing water changes. Its the doing the extra activities that gets you in trouble. Even when sober, Ive done this. :ROFL: As well as going to pick up fish from fellow MFKers and we'd hangout, chit chat and they overflow, LOL. Why do people always do WC when I go pick up fishes?

Next time if you drink, just stand there and watch your fishes. If it overflows while you're standing in front of your tank then you'll know you're F*** UP!, LOL
