Sad lesson I learned yesterday, where I lost my 2 year old tiger pleco to aggression from my featherfin catfish :( He even tore my convict to shreds while in the same tank.

So yeah, if you're considering a featherfin catfish (synodontis euruptus), I'd consider them superb for malawi or larger cichlids; maybe, just maybe at a push in a community with medium fast shoaling fish, otherwise take note!

Beautiful fish though, and can definitely be a showpiece in the right settings!

They can be very aggressive fish, my old one used to push my oscar that was 1.5 times it's length around.
(Although funnily it got pushed around by my male hoplo catfish that was smaller)

I actually had to move the featherfin originally as he was beating up my oscar too!

Will be a shame to re-home him, but it looks like he's going to maul anything I put in with him, urggg. Plenty of hiding spots and space too.

Smaller than feather fins but can hold their own in a african cichlid setup, I've seen this toughness in person when I had it in with malawi cichlids. It's in an aquarium with about 100 or more kribensis, too many for angelicus to focus on .

That's sad. :( I've been eyeing one (euruptus) off in the lfs, reading up on them etc to see if I could look after it. Glad i decided to search them on here.. The most aggressive thing I own is a betta. Shame, such a beautiful fish too..

Mine is 7" and it will hold its ground. Very aggressive but it's a beauty. It seems to have made a truce with my 10" marbled goby but will not tolerate any of the other cats. Fights with my pike sveni. It's worst fight was with a 6" buttkoferi. Shredded fins and scars all over. Eventually I rehomed the butti.
