Don't Worry About A.I. Taking Over...

jjohnwm jjohnwm . I did a bit of digging and it seems your admirer S sixog1634 also has a penchant for another member!!

Check out a recent thread in "DIY projects and ideas" entitled "rubber roll matting". The "bot" pipes up in post number 12 with a reply that is very much in line with what Backfromthedead Backfromthedead posted in post number 5.

Also, in their post you will notice the word "prepared" Is highlighted in blue. If you click on it it takes you too the website of a company called "DGB Refrigeration". WTF!!

I came very close to liking that post.

"At last, someone else as brilliant as i!"

came very close to liking that post.

At least you didn't! According to their account details some have indeed reacted to their posts, sucked in by their stolen and rearranged patter.

The ultimate degrading action would be to PM them and get into a conversation with them.

The bot would just rearrange what you posted and send it right back to you! Lol.

Esox, I like that idea! In fact, I like it well enough that I actually did it...quite purposely, rather than accidentally.

I sent the same PM to you as well, as a tip of the virtual hat and thank you. So, when you see it, please understand that the message is not directed at you! You'll know what I mean...:)

Well I read your PM before reading this, so I didn't get your warning! When I started reading it my jaw dropped, it was brutal, i thought it was indeed aimed at me!! Lol.

And then at the top of the message I noticed you'd added our friends username too. That's when I realised I was off the hook, lol.

Okay, here's another example I found:

Okay, fine, I am willing to believe that parroted-but-reworded response from S sixog1634 was actually created by a bot, rather than merely a human idiot. My question is simple: what purpose is being served by doing this?

The most obvious answer that I can come up with: practice. The AI is honing its skills at imitating a human being.

Why would it do this? Well, sure, maybe it's the creation of some socially-awkward tech genius, hunched over his computer in his mother's basement, giggling and drooling as he watches his creation succeed at something he himself can never master, i.e. interpersonal/social/communication skills.

That seems like a likely answer; a bit sad, to be sure, but not much more than an irritation or an annoyance. Other, more sinister explanations continue to hover in the wings as well...

Come on, S sixog1634 ...why don't you chime in here with something?
I find this amazing, I had never seen it in practice if AI is really what it is.

If I can (I really struggle to) believe that the universe is constantly expanding at the rate it is, creating planets and galaxies from, basically nothing, then believing that we won’t someday be able to travel through space and galaxies to meet other life forms isn’t so hard.
The reason I think we will struggle to do it, imho, is that we still struggle with the idea of helping one another for the betterment of mankind, and would still rather throw the man beside us under the oncoming bus if it meant saving ourselves.
A rather corse analogy but you get the point.
We didn’t go to the moon for the betterment of mankind, we did it to be better than the next lot that were trying to be better than us and everyone else and do it first.
And that, unfortunately will be the downfall of mankind, mankind themselves in some form or other. Whether it be direct self annihilation or AI induced won’t really matter.

If you like thinking about this kind of thing consider that earth will be uninhabitable in 5 billion years because the sun will have burned out. If somewhere between 100k - 250k years of evolution brought mankind to our current point what is the likelihood that in 5 billion years humans will still have shape and form such that a sun would be important?

Not quite. Our suns life will end in about 5 billion years time, that is true. But earth will be uninhabitable long long before then.

On its path to its demise the sun will expand as its energy runs out. Experts believe it could expand that much that it will swallow up Mercury and Venus, just stopping short of Earth.

But even if it doesn't absorb us, by then all life on earth would be gone, even the hardiest of microbes. Nothing. We'll be just a ball of rock, everything stripped away.

We'll all be gone long before that anyway, not because we've gone and destroyed ourselves, no, i'm wagering that an asteroid will eventually finish us off.

Wait a minute! Are you saying that rather than 5 billion years, we really only have one or two billion???

Dang! I gotta stock up on Massivore and peanut butter...

Afraid so my friend. A couple of billion years is around the time the sun will start expanding. Things will go south from then on, but of course it will be ever so gradual. The meaning of global warming will start to take on a new meaning, lol.

On the bright side at least by that time The Masked Shadow The Masked Shadow should have himself a pond if he gets a move on, sadly only for it to evaporate as the sun warms us up even more, lol.

This is sounding creepy.

Look back at what Covid did to us...and then imagine the kind of "supply chain issues" that lie in wait when all this crap hits! :)
