Dorado:Armatus:ATF

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thats why I still haven't pulled the trigger. I like to gaze at my tank while supposedly watching TV, so I need something that is active on it's own. I had to find out the hard way with lots of FireSale threads or Free threads Lol.

Doubt I'll try another wolf... I have been thinking of going VATF crazy since Wes got some. Only prob is I love my Aro and he might chomp a school of Tigers

My armatus will come to the glass when I wiggle my fingers and comes to the top when I open the lid. If you get one, just know it's not all fun and games having one, just saying haha. Mine also makes me want to rip my hair out a lot. Tiger fish are vary skittish even as they get big. My 13 inch always was finicky when I walked in to the room. Dorado I've herd of stories of them being bold but evey one I seen dose laps and not really human responsive.

honestly if want a mean fish that is aggressive, human response, dose not give a f*** when it comes to feeding time and willing to go through glass to get a smaller fish. Get a wolf fish. It's worth the extra money. Even my old 15 inch common wolf which is not as aggressive, would take food from my hands

I know what you mean, but no one fish is ever going to cure a true MFKers cravings. Heck I can't even feed my monkey(cravings) with 1 tank. I like active too! Nothing beats a Dorado trying to outswim a shoal of Masheer, but there's still the "toothy" craving. The what if I stuck my hand in there mentality - tank full of salty eels. Still doesn't scratch it cause you'd like beauty and speed in an attractive wrapping - tank of ATF-but what about something that carries the power to actually seriously intimidate you as a human being? That question you ask yourself- what the hell am I going to do when it gets big? Aimara.

Although, I'm not going to lie, the tank I've spent the most time drooling over at my house lately is the ATF/Polyuranadon 125...... And it doesn't even have any rays in it.....

I'm glad I don't have to choose...... I'd loose my mind. lol

Do you enjoy risk? Like everyday wondering if you're going to come home to a dead fish and have no friggin clue why? IF you do then ATF and Armatus are right up your alley..... Plenty of documented cases of this by the very people posting in this thread. I believe there's absolutely nothing you can do about it either. Do we still keep them? Sure, do we enjoy them? Sure? Does the risk ever go away? Nope.

Only one of these fish is what I would consider bullet proof.... And for that reason alone I'm with KNH.

I've kept all these preds, and can tell you it's pretty neat seeing all of them in action, but in my opinion the most impressive is watching a Dorado smash a frog off the surface. lol. Love my Dodos.

Biggest in Aquarium for a Dorado that I'm aware of is just shy of 30"

Personable- I'd put Dorado right there with Armatus. But I have a wolf that's way more personable then either. Speaking of, why no consideration for Wolves?

+1
That was exactly what I was thinking.

DB told it like it is after all that information still get the Armatus its worth it!!!

This is why I hate looking at MFK. My crave dies down and then I get curious how some of you guys stuff is doing then... BOOOM, where can I drop cash for one of those and two of these:cry:

Flip side is wouldn't you rather hear about our fish eating each other instead of having it happen to you? I've lost a lot of stuff the last 2 weeks..... Kind of makes you sick. :(

3 weeks ago I would have never considered an Odoe to be a feeder.....

Somewhat off topic question: Have any of you successfully kept these species with rays?

My Vitattus has been with my rays for over 2 years no problems and same with my Armatus but only about 6 months. The Vittatus is probably around 15" and the Armatus is over 12" and probably closer to 15" as he is growing like a weed. I have good harmony in my tanks and both of these beast are going to just keep getting bigger! The vittatus gets chased by my RTG arowana once in a while but the vittatus does the same and it will just be a matter of time when the tides will change and the vittatus will be king of the tank!

I already tried a black wolf with my rays and he was damaging and eating the pups before I could get them out and it's no fun having to put dividers in your tanks just so you can just house fish that shouldn't be with each other in the first place. I wouldn't recommend a wolf when it comes to breeding rays and pups. You will be constantly dividing and moving rays or the culprits. My Armatus and vittatus have been in the tanks for births of pups and no damage so no need to move anything which=peace of mind!

Yup. All of the mentioned together in the same tank with rays. Will it work long term? We'll see! Some of us have been poisoned by these ray/Characin combos for many years...... lol
