Thats very cool. hope things work out. Im glad your keeping us updated.

I'm going to keep on it pretty diligently. My wife is only so interested in fish reproduction so it's nice to have some people to talk to about it. I'll definitely keep updating any fry if it works. I'm going to grow a few of them out fully.

A few more are turning white today. I also noticed as I came downstairs that the mother was fighting off the father pretty aggressively until I popped the light on. I wonder if he is giving her hell all night trying to eat the eggs. Possible I guess.

I would throw some dither fish in there. The dithers make the pairs bond stronger by giving them something to protect the babies from. Usually the male protects the territory and the mother tends to the eggs and acts as a back up if needed. If there is nothing to protect the nest from they often will take out the aggression towards each other.

Not a bad idea. But I have to find a fish that can maintain with the two. They are pretty rough with tank mates. I may actually grab a green sunfish when I'm fishing and bring it home. Quarantine it for a couple weeks then see how that works. Those greenies can handle the rough stuff.

make a divider for the tank out of egg crate or plexiglass and divide a small section for the dither as long as they can see it they will try to attack it. use plexiglass because they might damage themselves by attacking the egg crate. I divided a small portion of a 75 I use for breeding and put a pair of convicts in there.

If the deed is done there isn't a reason to keep big poppa with the female and eggs you could divide the tank and separate them.
