Dovii owners

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well I read this entire thread and I'm disappointed by the maturity level of some folks on here. But besides that point I would like to clarify the dovi in the video. He has another on youtube of just the pair and he states the male is probably 20 inches and female 6.

Think you REALLY need to watch what you say to people you dont know. The internet is such a wonderful thing, it gives people the ability to say things to people that they would never say to them if they were face to face.

At no point did I declare myself to be an "expert" but I have kept various Dovii for many many years at various sizes both personally and through the shop.

So look at the pictures of my 2 x dovii and tell me that thats not a male and a female at 3" then cause judging by what your saying they are un sexable at this size.....

This forum is FULL of people who have no clue about what there doing at all.

Can a male dovii have a good life in a 180g with good feeding and excellent water quality and the answer is absolutely yes!

Would I use a 180, not for an adult no as I will always give more than is needed, but a 300 gallon tank with 1 fish in it .... eh no matey.

So if you wanna talk please feel free to pm me and I will give you my email address or phone number.

Thanks babe xxxx

babe xxxx??? Sorry, dont swing that way scottie. I stand by everything I said in my original post.

dovii for many many years?....eh, no matey:naughty:

Scottie..... that sounds a bit racist. But Glasgow is such a friendly place so sure you would be welcomed with open arms.

But seems a bit low highlighting it and then calling me that even with the fact that my name is in the profile to the left!

And yes 1st female dovii in around 92 with a jag pair until got rid, because the jags were spawning and it was having a hard time.

Bought a large jumbo Nic male from N.H.A in England as a display fish for the shop in about 2004 and he was paired with a female someone brought in. He was the one that was killed by a big Butti over night. The female survived.

Not to mention the countless young that were sold of through the shop, and now I have the 2 young that were sent from Jeff Rapps.

So yeah years.

Wanna keep quizing then go ahead.

I have never kept a dovii and definitely won't anytime soon. Maybe in a few years when I have the money and the space for all my dream tanks... but after seeing many videos and reading many stories I wouldn't keep an adult male dovii in anything smaller than 300 gal, and considering how fast they grow and how aggressive they are I'd probably want to have the tank set up before getting the fish.

Thus, why your opinion is not entirely accurate, solely based on heresay and videos. Based on personal experience aggression depends on fish. I've had Dovii that are what you call aggressive to where he ruled the tank but never to the extent of killing my other fish. I have also had Dovii that were more chilled and acted like any other normal cichlid.
IMO 240 gallons is fine for a Dovii. We must remember every cichlid is different.

Their growth will be extremely fast under optimum conditions, which is what every fish keeper should provide to their fish. I'm not quite sure if you just suggested that purposely stunting or starving a fish so it doesn't grow "as fast" would be right, if so you should never be allowed to keep any fish at all.

He stated he saw these tanks not owned!!! :irked:

i had 1 male at about 3 inch got him to about 6-8 inch and put them all in larger tank 750g all the other fish wer about same size or bigger his problem was his teeth are bigger and shaped diffrently may be, than the others i had 10 12 inch fish in there,he would puncher holes in the others lips when they jaw lock he had to come out ,6 hours to get him out they are very clever fish, i saw a full grown 1 in cost rica this year m8 the fangs on it omg.. lol

i would say he acted like my other fish aggerssion wise, they all jaw lock now and again, it was his teeth in the end..he did not chase but he wasent the biggest he would stand his ground!!!!!!!!
