Why not just trust Mel's estimates on the fish that he keeps and takes care of everyday? He's never come across as the insecure type that would have to lie or submit his fish to an unnecessary measurement. Maybe you could just ask him what his most recent estimated length of his Dovii is and just leave it at that. The fact remains that Dovii can reach 30", whether that is commonly seen or not. This really shouldn't revolve around Mel's Dovii though. He has a prime example of a large and healthy Dovii and that should really be the extent of the comparisons to other ones. I just hate to see the word of a man doubted when he's not here to defend it.

100 percent right mels a world class cichlid keeper and his dovii is the best out there im no place to doubt his judgement considering ive never seen it myself. thanks and doviis are the best

Sorta on the same topic, Mels is 9 years old, how long do they live for? You'd think a large fish like that could live for at least a few more years, and they don't stop growing...

good point with how well he takes care of his fish that dovii could have mamy years left I think he had a jaguar that just passed not too long ago that was like 15 years old. im sure age has a lot to do with why we dont see many doviis like mels cause not a lot of people keep a fish healthy for that long, im sure the monsters in the wild could be twice the age of mels if not more

I dont see wat the problem is with having a dovii in a 100 gallon or so? Just raise it till it gets to big than sell it. You get to watch the monster grow and you make money off of the situation. Who knows maybe youll get lucky and get a small female.

Taking the Piss?

Whats the point in that. Dont bother getting what you cant house!

Well mel has a 600 gallon tank for that dovii,so maybe that is why it looks small, but I would say its 24 inches.Would a 270 gallon with the dimensions of 72x36x24 be good enough to have a Dovii in?

I wouldnt hesitate one second putting a dovii in that sized tank. the footprint is larger than a 8x2 240. just keep the water clean and youll have yourself a hapy dovii

So due to size of the Dovii and Aggression, you can never mix a Dovii with any other cichlids, unless the tank was maybe 720 gallons 92x48x36?
