Dovii vs Umbee

OP, both of your fish are beautiful! I am also growing both out(F1 rio mag umbee and a wc nic. blue dovii) and hope that mine turn out like yours. they are definitely apex predators and I love the little nuances and differences in both of their personalities. I would like to add my two cents and mention that my two 6" fish are cohabiting with a 5 spot jewel (hemichromis fasciatus) that's only four inches...... at these respective sizes, their aggression levels are equal except that the 5 spot killed all of his old tank mates and that's why he is now growing with the "big boys" .

5 star generals are nasty little fish. That is for sure,
and I dont want you guys to think I favor one fish to other. I love both fish for different reasons, I just simply want to clarify that the dovii does indeed get slightly larger. That was all.

Ok Dovii hold the record, but IMO there is so much area of water that Umbee are located that its hard to deny that there isnt 30 plus monsters. There is a video of a guy from Colombia think his name is Edwardo a friend of Umbeeking and in one of his video he reels in a monster umbee and it looks way bigger then 24 inch, if i find it i will post. My big males is a 5 year old tank raised and is exactly 18inch that should give a pretty good gauge of growth rate he was raised in a 180. Mels male dovii I think is 8 years old raised in a 600g and is 28
Ya, but these fish slow down significantly in growth when they get to that 18'' mark. Just ask mel about it, it specifically talks about how his huge dovii will grow till the day he dies, but has slowed down quite a bit.
Now, in regards to the umbee from Columbia, if it truly was bigger than the 24'' mark it would of surely made the list. But obviously if it wasn't verified than it is just pure speculation. Look, you guys can say there are 30'' umbee out there, but the fact remains, NOBODY has ever caught or been able to prove such a claim. The end of the day, you must go off of facts. The fact is, the dovii is larger than the umbee, it is verified, and proven. Until otherwise, everything else is speculation and nothing else.
Mel also had his umbee in a 600 gallon with the festae pair I believe.
