So yesterday, right after my second 50% WC of the week, my Marbled Motoro starting curling just his front lip.. thought it was strange. I immediately made sure there were no nitrate, nitrites, or ammonia problems. Second, I treated for second time in 4 days with Prazi Pro to make sure its not an internal parasite. I cut him 2 fresh pieces of silversides, and he responded very quickly and went to swimming and eating like normal for about 10 minutes. Ive read as much as possible, and from Franks site I read that they only lift the disk when it is uncomfortable, and this is almost always the end. Well, he went from just the front lip to curling almost his whole disk, last night, and I could barely sleep. Never lost a ray, not planning on Toro being the first either. Also read from Frank they could have bacterial or fungal infection on the bottom of the disk. He doesnt really show a red belly but is certainly lefting his disk edge constantly. I Woke this morning and Toro is still here and alive, but not seeming himself and still curling, pics to come. I think it has to be a fungal infection on the bottom of his disk.. his disk is also not looking smooth at all, more like tattered and slightly fuzzy.. Will the Prazi Pro not treat the bacterial or fungal infections on the bottom of the disk? Also read P.Pro says not to use with any other medications??? Any ideas?? Please Help.. cant just sit here and watch him die slowly.. Anyone else had a ray begin to curl and snap out of it, or have one curl off and on over a 24hr period??? Water is fine, and have 2 other rays with him that are fine? HELP!!

Add aquarium salt 2 teaspoons per 10 gallons ASAP, You can also add melafix to the system to help with the bacterial infection. Prazi-pro is only in for parasites and will not help with anything more. Add salt and melafix ASAP and don't worry to much i have seen rays recover from deathcurl numerous times but still need to act fast also raise your temp to 86. Also when you did your water change did you add dechlorinator to the water as your were adding? I have seen chlorine cause rays to do the same thing curl there disk and also puff up there disk like a balloon.

I'm not sure how it's like but it does sound somewhat like a fungal infection probably due to the substrate, need pics for a precise look. And yes, do add around 5 ppt aqua salt, it may help. Good luck!!!

What Csx said is good advise. My rays have had it once and they recovered, once i acted, so good luck.

thanks guys, i read the same thing from raylady, kim i believe, just got home from the store with salt and melafix before i even read your replies.. thanks so much though for all your help.. he responded almost immediately to the salt.. still holdin strong..

Yes.. and when I got the water change down to 50% I added stress coat and stress zyme, same as always, before I began to add water back in the tank.. pics of dreaded 24hr long death curl coming... beware

I have only heard of a few accounts of saving a ray that is curling, if CSX has done it "numerous times" that would be great news. He should write an article on it and have that thread pinned.

Any abrasive substrates mixed in? Possibly irritating the ray?

Any tankmates nipping the disc?

Be careful not to overdo the MelaFix.. I have heard mixed opinions on it, and I would only reccomend a half dosage.
