Dreaded Death Curl.. Please Help!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
GL I lost a ray today. Do your best to save him.

this blows.. absolutely worst thing has happened to me in keeping any type of pet or animal of any type in 15 years.. I am actually pissed off about the whole situation now.. this is the same ray I have been trying to pack weight on for a month now.. Sad that this is the skinniest ray I have ever recieved, and it came from right here in the US from an online distributor.. got 2 batches of imports from peru and columbia, different exporters, and every single ray is in much better condition even after the much longer flight and stress... doesnt make sense to me..

and just for the record of documenting this horrible experience, he has curled and uncurled several times over the past 24hrs, responded to food, eaten, and even swam around a bit before parking it again and curling.. right next to a perfect healthy motoro female..should i remove her?,should i remove him? puzzeled...

Removing the ray is a hard call, the stress of it might be his doom.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Whens the last time you introduced anything into the tank? Was it quarnted?

Any abrasive substrates mixed in? Possibly irritating the ray?

Any tankmates nipping the disc?

Be careful not to overdo the MelaFix.. I have heard mixed opinions on it, and I would only reccomend a half dosage.[/QUOTE

It is very hard to overdose Melaifx, I have used double dose many times on my rays and never had any problems.

I wouldn't move either of the rays... could potentially do more harm than good....

Mmm.. You will have to take that one up with DW :D Perhaps a new thread is in order.. ;)

Ok, wont move either, thanks again guys..

no new introduction, never without quarantine, say substrate as always never a prob.. no obvious nipping of the disc at all.. just fed again and he still jumps at the smell of silversides.. swimming looking for more and eating.. definitely notice a little irritation around the bottom edges of the disc now is much more evident.. the waiting continues as I try to carry on with normal life.. tough stuff!

changeing 50% of the tank water in one go is to much IMO

best to do 2 x 25% WC per week and dont worrie to much about the nitrates

haha, love that you doubt it.. Thanks to everyone else with a lil optimism.. here is the same ray that was in the death curl.. now swimming the sides back as usual.. sorry crappy pic but i am very excited..THANKS EVERYONE!!! think he is gonna make it after all.. bringin 'em back with the help from Mike, Miles, and many others.. Thanks again..
