driftwood questions????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a huge piece of drift that's been in my tank 5 months and it's still floating (But it's cool because it looks like mangrove roots, you can see it in my gallery pics),
so I believe it depends on the size of the piece.

they will prob. float for about a week. if you want it to be a little quicker, put a big rock on top of them so that they are completely sumerged. also, once you get them out, peel off any loose splinters you see, these get in your gravel (and filter) and look awful.

My friend has a piece in his tank floating since 1980! It depends what kind of wood you get locally... it's in a large tank so it looks very KOOL, rain forest look!

hehe sometimes they just float forever... however zipties and rocks can put an end to that...

Just got 2 pieces of wood for my pleco tank and they are both leaking tannin like mad

i soaked my wood for a week or so kept it in a bucket and poured boiling water onto it and change the water 4/5 times a day then placed it into the tank...the tannins did colour up the water took about 3 month with water changes to go completely. also the tannins lower the PH ( i was lucky to have an amazon themed tank ) so yeah watch out for that.

you say you want the amazon theme but check the PH now and after you've put in the wood.

Why dont you just buy artifical wood.
