Driftwood vs Bare tank

I had a similar issue. My tank featured 2 huge driftwood caves which the fish use for cover and setup homes. Biggest issue is they became very flighty and dashed for cover ever time I walked into the room. What i did was remove the driftwood and bought some new pieces that come down into the tank like roots. This adds some character to the tank, looks natural and also maintains large swimming space. I found immediately the fishes behavior changed and they swim around happily without dashing for cover. They also seem more confidant. So instead of going completely bare maybe try this?

personally speaking, i could never stand bare tanks, so unless it was in essence necessary for me to remove certain decor from the tank, i would rather have it in there and rarely see my fish, than to take it out just for my own viewing pleasure especially if it could stress the fish out...

But again, as i said, thats just me...
 
Piranhas are likely to be more skittish than other fishes. I want them to get out of their shells quicker than waiting till they are adults. Thanks for the opinions guys!
 
It seems like your fish have grown bigger since the video you posted with them in the driftwood tank. I think that with their current size, it is better for them to have more room. The tank does feel a little bit hollow now without the wood, so maybe you could try to get more plants in there for them to swim around and such. Just my suggestion though, do what ever makes you happy!

Agreed. I'm thinking of adding some swords in there and maybe some larger vals...Ty

Exactly. If I had cichlids, who ime are more out going and rarely hide, I would never stress about them being skittish. I have many cichlid tanks which bored me after 5 years and moved on to different type of fishes. I agree 100% that driftwood makes the tank look natural and really sexy, but my fishes need the change imo. Can you postsome pics bro? I love seeing cichlid tanks!
