WinMo has been around since 2000, how was it short lived? The main problem that I see w/ Android is that their are so many phones. They need to cut down the list a little bit or at least make sure that they can all be updated to a new firmware at least a few times before they're obsolete. iPhones I just get bored of staring at all the little squares on the screen all the time and how ignorant the Apple company is. Their should be more Android apps available soon now that the development program has been released, http://appinventor.googlelabs.com/about/
i dont know, windows mobile just sucks lol! i just say short lived because theyre not even considered a player in the smart world phone anymore.

about the multiple phones, i think thats a good thing. since google only builds the OS, the phone manufacturers can push phones to the limits. this also lets them get their android OS across to different carriers. unlike apple which is stupidly tied down to the worst network in the country.

and about the updates, i'm still using the original motorola droid that came out in november '09. this is still the main phone and reminds wildly popular in the hacker/developer community. and it's gotten several updates. started with 2.0, then 2.0.1, then 2.1, and now Froyo 2.2 in a few weeks.

ive been running the latest 2.2 for a while now, much before its released to the masses.

I agree that we're being bombard with alot of andriod phones. Some people can't tell the difference between "driod" and "andriod". I guess it probably came at the general public pretty fast and they'll catch on eventually. However, how much better would apps be on the iphone if more then 2 phones could use it? Granted you can use them on ipod and ipads also. Still looking at only a handful of devices.
'Android' is the operating system all these phones run. 'Droid' is the marketing name pushed out by Verizon. for example, verizon has the original droid (motorola), the droid Incredible (HTC), the droid X (motorola), and upcoming the Droid 2 (motorola). other android phones like the HTC Evo on sprint dont use the 'droid' brand name

as far as i know the apps in google marketplace work for any current android phone...

At least AT&T is finally getting an Android phone that can compete w/ the iPhone. It's a good thing to have multiple phones, but some of the lower end ones just get left behind after one update. Good thing for XDA. I just wonder what Gingerbread will look like since Google wants to overhaul the way it looks.

i know AT&T has an android phone right now right? i remeber seeing a lot of bad talk about because ATT removed the ability to install apps from outside the marketplace. this is bad bad bad apple nazi commie practices which is why many people hated att for that

and check this out, even the low-end Droid Eris is getting an update soon. this one is lower on the totem pole than the original droid and still going strong :)

They have the HTC Aria which is out right now and the Motorola Backflip. The Samsung Captivate is coming this month so finally a high-end phone. Yeah, they removed that ability. But, http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/11/confirmed-htc-sync-lets-atandt-aria-sideload-apps/

I like simpleled, pdanet (for those who aren't rooted), better keyboard, beautiful widgets, astro file manager, imusic (not in market anymore), police alert, paypal, skype mobile, tikl (awesome ptt app like nextel phones), ringdroid, keyring, picsay pro, and zedge. I just downloaded launcherpro...
Oh and handcent.

what is paypal for on your phone?

I have NFL for free...

craigsnotificiation is gone, only donation app is there

I appreciate all the help, but lets not talk about how crappy Iphones are or how much other carriers suck. Lets keep it to the apps that I need to get! Thanks all... This is helping a lot.

Jcardona, some of your apps are not there anymore or they cost... are any of them worth the cost?
