Does the droid offer the backbone of services (app store, itunes, etc) that I get with the iphone? For instance, the blackberry i had before offered it, but it was AWFUL. navigation was clunky and terrible, the screen was bad, the apps were archaic and there was nothing to really do other than wish I had something different. When I got the chance, I went to an iphone, and I've been pretty happy with the phone itself, but the dropped calls are annoying as can be.

The droid has an app market, but the apps are still subpar in quantity and quality. Theres no itunes, I just upload into folders, which I prefer over the proprietary itunes. But the sound quality and the interface are nowhere nearly as polished as the apple. The droid is more open and flexible, the iphone is better put together straight out of the box.

Granted, Im judging the iphone solely based on my experience with the ipod touch.

TBH, the itunes store makes buying stuff very easy and I think that's a huge bonus to the phone "package." For instance, I was thinking to myself "I wonder where my Dark Side of the Moon cd is." Well, I couldn't find it, but it was on sale for $7.99. I hit a button and I've listened to it 2-3x in the last week. For someone like me who doesn't push my phone to the limit, and uses general apps and a few games, the iphone does a great job and gives me a lot of functionality that I didn't have before.

The droids have the Amazon MP3 store built in to most of them or you can DL it should you have a phone without it preloaded. Pretty much same thing as itunes but cheaper especially for entire albums normally.

The app market for botht he iphone and droid are filled with crap. Seriously go on either and search flashlight........

The big difference is that Droid does not require you to only use the app market. You can go to another market like app brain and DL stuff from there. Want to sign up for a droid forum or you find an app online that interests you then DL it and it is on the phone. You are not locked into apps approved by the man like with Apple.

As for navigation the Droids come with google maps which is the best navigation program I have ever used. So good that my nav units have been sold since getting the phone. I enjoy the street view the most when going to a new place since it shows you what the streets you should be turning on look like in real time as you get to them which is sweet.

For games and such.......well anything on one phone that is even slightly successful is normally ported to the other in very short succession. Its like comparing games for the 360 vs PS3. Really not much of a difference in terms of availability but there are some bigger hardware differences depending on the phone you get.

Thank god Android doesn't use something like iTunes. That's one of my main reasons for hating Apple. They like to control everything. Leave it to these guys to make something as simple as uploding music so slow and complicated. Nothing like the freedom to drag/drop/copy/paste instead of waiting for crap to sync up.

Also, if you have Android, this is a must-have. Go to this site from your phone and install manually. All the songs you want, free to download all day every day.

people who have itune don't necessarly use it to upload music. i still use livewire and then import all songs to itunes. apple doesn't control me!

Still has to be converted to the Apple format which I find frustrating.

All of my rippings of CDs and DLs are converted in Itunes when I want to move them to my iPod which is a PITA. To simply listen to it on my PC is not an issue though.

yes, Cds and lps would need to be ripped on to itunes......i don't actually listen to cds. i buy the artists that i love but it gets one listen, the ride home maybe. chances are i already pirated the cd and have it on my ipod
