drop eye again....... wikipedia

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Osteos are more likely to get drop eye because genetically they have weaker optic muscles that are responsible for holding the eyeball in the correct orientation. because of that, overfeeding with fatty foods and feeding sinking food will only accelerate DE. Asians on the other hand are less likely to get DE because although from the same bonytongue family, their optic muscles are stronger and will only develop DE through consistent tank bottom feeding.

there you go. Genetic predisposition and weaker orbital muscles ( which also is genetic ). Makes sense. All other hypothesis would only be valid if DE affected all bonytongues ( or at least aro's ) on a similar scale...

they alll eat the same type. all pick up from the bottom. all bang their heads.

my aro had a fluid filled sac abovethe eye and its pushing her eye downward.

i seen this in several arowana including a large one in a public aquarium, (can't find the pic)

try explaining that, because i cannot :(

must have resulted from the downwards dislocation of the eye globe ( weak muscles ) together, eventually, with a trauma from a head bang(?)..Could be a haematoma, with liquid, that then got reabsorbed..

I agree with facking merry go round.....:nilly: :)

for 4 years?

Man who knows??! I am a lawyer so I invent explanations for everything...I am not a veterinary....:) :) , for chrissakes:) :)

And you did not mention 4 years, before:)

I have to agree with the head banging theory along with weak eye muscles; with the cause of the weak eye musculature unknown. My silver got it one evening after being spooked in the dark. I took photos of the injury and posted them here. Locate your tank where there is no traffic and leave a night light on for the fish and you may not have this problem. Bubblewrap on the top of the inside lid might help also.
