Medway Me.
i think my silver is getting d/e, it is very slight its only in his left eye. It seems like he can't move it back up. It is not noticable until you look closely. Is there anything I can to to stop or slow the progression of it?
here is some info...

-he is 8 in long, I don't know how old but I've had him about 3 months
-tank- 270 gal
-tankmates- are a cory cat and a pleco
-ph- around 6
-temp- steady 83 f.
-I use blackwater additives and driftwood
-I do regular water changes, so nitrates, nitrites, amonia not the problem
-I feed huge variety (mostly shrimp pellets and crickets, also occasional worms, shrimp, dried tubiflex worms, or bits of raw fish.)
-I don't give him a lot of food at once, and only once a day.

I can't get pics my digy cam is on the fritz, but like I said its not bad yet
Is there anything I can do for him? Thanks guys!

btw the avitar is him when I first got him, he has grown sence.

Only preventative measures for captive silver that have been reported to help DE is keeping them in large ponds. In the home aquarium it is pretty much impossible to prevent.

i often hear in pet shops here to keep a floating object like ping pong balls or those ball in Over head filters in ur tank (not too small to be swallowed) to keep his attention and eye on it. maybe you could try many variations or colors...

haven't tried this thought...=(

but who knows? Just might work!:D

You can NOT do anything to prevent drop eye from a silver arowana that is kept in captivity.. Not even in the pond... Only wild silver arowana that I've seen without drop eye

ive heard of people keeping their arowanas in fiberglass tanks on the floor so it only looks up at things moving around

It's most likely a genetic flaw rather than an environmental issue. Think about it...people keep arows in a TON of differant set ups....with differing substraits...lighting...tank bracing...ECT. and yet they still get DE. If pre-disposed to the condition...a Silvers going to get it...it's that simple.

I've heard some people covered the sides of their tank for sometime (long time like months I think)
