fish are the bulk of an arows diet in the wild

if they are eating mostly fish how do they not have drop eye.

all fish have fat

the smelt i feed leave a thick oily layer at the surface.

fat idea just doesnt fit......no pun intented.

well thats what i think since i saw pix of people cutting the fat off a aro's eye during drop eye operation

but everyone isnt using a cleartank. I know loads of ppl that got gravel in thier tanks still getting dropeye so ill say reflection is bull... Must be something else. And it cant be gentic all silver doesnt have the same parents right.. And why doesnt jardini get it?? Anyone seen a black that has it? Its always silver besides from a few asian

here we go again with the ever popular DE debates... :irked:
pingpong ball = BS
feeders = BS
bare bottom = BS

either u keep it in a pond like enclosure or u accept and love the aro with the DE.

But i wish anyone knew WHY they get it... Not that someone i know had a grandpa that told him they get from...... I would love to know for sure.. We all know that they get but WHY??? If we knew we might prevent it..

here's something for you to think about you freke lol, how do you know arowanas in the wild DON'T get DE? have you gone swimming with wild aros to verify that they do NOT get it?

stop questioning life about there posture, it happens. and for over 30 years of the fish being in the hobby everyone has always wondered. they've performed surgery for reasons i don't understand. they fish must be so uncomfortable and possibility of him losing his eye sight or maybe even dying. not worth the risk if u ask me. i love all my aros, all 3 of my silver arowanas HAVE DE and 1 has DE in BOTH eyes, i still love them more then ever.

only fish i own that doesn't have it is my leichardti, but lets see how long that last.

but on a serious note, i always thought of it as a survival evolvement. he has tankmates below him at all times in a home tank, and the tank is so small he would have to kinda keep an eye on them to make sure he's safe. so over time his eye slowly starts to look down in a form like now he can see up, and down lol

for now think of it as a genetic predisposition.........what causes it is still unknown.
