dwarf reticulated python

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think his obsession with obtaining as many herps as possible is steaming from the attitude that most people have toward fish: "If it dies, I get a new one; if it get too big, I just trade it in."

anybody notice his new sig?? FAVITATE fish lol
i think you need to stick to your fish

Look man I don't want to turn anyone from reptiles, because if you do it right you can get a ton of enjoyment out of it, but you need to take a few steps back and figure out why you want to keep reptiles. If it's because you want something unique so you can rub it in our faces, that's a bad reason. BTW, there have been many DAs who have bought retics, Burms, and anacondas just because it's "cool" to have a giant snake. So you wouldn't be one of the chosen few rather than one of the misguided many if you got a retic.

If you want to keep reptiles because *you* like them and because *you* think they're cool, no matter what we think, that's a better reason. And if you want to get a retic one day, fine, but you sure as hell had better have YEARS of snakekeeping experience with medium-large snakes before you get one.

IMHO, Large_cichlids is the poster boy for everything that is wrong with the reptile hobby today. Basically seeing them as "disposable." Too many keepers out there acquire animals with relative ease and get little no information, either because they choose not to seek it, don't get exposure to it, or choose not to listen to it when others try to give it to them. These are the same people that dump animals in the everglades, have escapes that get regional or national news coverage, and overall send the hobby backwards at the expense of the many, silent, responsible keepers out there.

Obviously he is just a kid that already knows everything. One thing I am curious about though.......where are the TOKAYS that were in the 55????

I bet they are with the original TWO tokays, leopard gecko's, golden gecko's, water dragon, nile monitor............hmmmmm I am begining to see a pattern here.

To be honest, as fun as ridaculing large_cichlids is, it's not helping anyone. However large_cichlids you have to accept that a lot of people are trying to give you good advice and are already experienced in keeping herps. People get short with you because reptiles dont go down well with the general public in general, and so people that don't treat the hobby seriously are not considered welcome as it is mistakes from other keepers that get rules put in place for others not able to keep the reptiles of their choice. At the end of the day we are not you're mum, and can't stop you from doing anything but it would be sensible if you took on board the info people give to you, and just read around derogatory comments. It's up to other more knowledgeable people to try and help others, and if you feel your comments are falling on deaf ears, don't comment (though that will help no one). Give the kid some help and properly inform him. That is all you can do. But large_cichlids stop fueling everyones perceptions of you, and give the hobby the respect it deserves. Good luck with your current reptiles.

:iagree:

The only problem is that the "kid" has been given more advice on the animals he has "kept" than pretty much anyone else here, and *HE* ignores it. He will ask about a Niles diet, get a 5 page respnse full of great info, and then ask TWO DAYS later if he could feed it HAMBURGER. And when he is told he can not he will do it anyways. And that is just one example of the way he shows his level respect for the people that have tried to help him.

Im sorry but I no longer feel the need to "sugar coat" what I feel about LC. He is extremely irresponsable and IMHO should NOT be allowed to buy one more animal. HE treats them as if they are disposable and has ZERO respect for them. Period. He is in it for the "WOW" factor and that is all.
He needs to wait a few years until he matures and then maybe he should try again. Because for now he is doing more harm to our hobby, let alone to the animals he "throws away", than he is worth.
